LeVar Burton’s hit show ‘Reading Rainbow’ is making its way to Netflix on August 1st! The first of many new shows making their debut, ‘Reading Rainbow’ is beloved by both children and adults alike for its sense of humor, bringing books to life and of course our favorite song…”Butterfly in the sky…I can go twice as high…” Currently, Netflix is planning to select some of the most popular episodes from its run which went from 1983-2006 but the specific number or details has yet to be released.

This past year has been a huge success for Burton in reviving the Reading Rainbow brand as he planned to film new episodes for streaming on mobile, tablets and video game consoles through Kickstarter. The crowdfunding effort ended up a huge success, receiving $1 million in less than 11 hours. It went on to make over $5 million and Burton is currently filming the new episodes now. When questioned if the new episodes would make it on Netflix, Burton revealed that the plan was for streaming methods only, however he did not rule it out in the future.

Regardless, there is much to look forward to when August 1 rolls around as a new world of reading will be opened up for the children of the next generation.
