Kalamazoo, Michigan is reeling from a horrific act of random violence when a shooter went on a killing spree Saturday night, killing six people and injuring two others.

The shootings were completely random over the course of seven hours, with no motive as targets were chosen: a woman outside her apartment, a father and son at a car dealership and a group of women at the Cracker Barrel restaurant were among the few.

The suspected shooter is 45-year old Jason Dalton, an Uber driver for the city. According to authorities he took driving jobs between shootings, earning tips in the process. He is currently in custody and the incident is considered isolated to one shooter.

The first shooting happened around 6:00 pm where a woman was gunned down outside her apartment, however she survived the shooting. Sadly, a father and son who were looking at cars were shot dead, followed by four elderly who were trying to leave a restaurant.

According to local authorities, all of the victims were chosen because they were available. There is no determined motive.

The Michigan State Police made the following statement:

“There’s a sense of loss, there’s an anger — there’s fear — there’s all these emotions and then you put on top of that: how do you go and tell the families of these victims that they weren’t targeted for any reason other than they were there to be a target?”
