A Florida judge is currently facing major criticism from the public as well as her peers after sentencing a single mother, a victim of domestic violence, to three days in jail after she didn’t appear to testify against her abuser. A video of the altercation went viral which shows Judge  Jerri Collins demanding to know why the young woman didn’t show up for her hearing which the woman blames her anxiety got the best of her and she is trying to raise her one-year old by herself. Sadly, the Judge could have cared less, going as far to say, “You think you’re going to have anxiety now? You haven’t even seen anxiety.”

The young mother had been called to testify against her husband who was charged with aggravated assault and use of a deadly weapon against her. However, when she failed to appear she was summoned to explain her absence.

“Your honor, I’m very sorry for not attending the last one,” the 27-year-old woman said. “I’ve been dealing with depression and just a lot personally since this happened. My anxiety is like, this is everyday for me.”

Unfortunately, the woman’s excuses did not resonate with the judge who found her in contempt of court and ordered her to three days in the county jail. Of course, this has not gone over with the public nor her fellow peers as the lack of compassion is extremely startling. Even worse, the victim has since spoke about the incident, revealing she wouldn’t call the police next time which has now sparked outrage that domestic abuse victims feel they must be silenced.

Currently, no disciplinary action has been brought up against Judge Collins.
