The holiday season is an extremely difficult time to stay focused on eating healthfully, exercising regularly and improving wellness. Trust me, I understand. Even if you have superhuman willpower, the holiday season is challenging for everyone.
There’s lots of travel and eating out, as well as tons of social events with indulgent foods and excessive alcohol. And with delicious beckoning desserts and snacks around every corner, it’s easy for healthy eating habits to get lost in the shuffle. Combine that with hectic holiday schedules and cooler weather that makes you want to cozy up on the couch rather than go for a walk or run, it’s extremely easy for exercise plans to also take a hit around this time of year.
The holidays can also be an emotionally taxing time. You might feel obligated to eat certain things with family and friends. Stress can make you want to eat more to make the day more pleasant. And when you’re taking care of so many guests, it can be hard to find a moment to take care of yourself.
It is indeed a tricky time. But despite the difficulties, with some thought, strategy and determination, it’s possible to survive the holidays with your wellness intact.
To help you start 2017 with good health and momentum, rather than a long list of resolutions, here are some strategies for a successful—and healthy— holiday season.
